Hello you, the KEPT!
So, last night over a few beers and after the ladies left the pub, a few of the guys decided to discuss the roles of men and women of our generation.
Here is @sneakybeesh's theory:
Woman have, until recently, been the traditional home giver and home maker. This all changed since the industrial revolution and more specifically, according to @sneakybeesh since around the 1940s. That is when they started coming more into the work force (which he thinks is great btw, no sexism involved here). However, if we look at the trends, with more disposable income for the wives, came a higher rate of divorce for the couples (is there a proven relationship? @sneakybeesh neither knows, nor cares, those are 2 independent observations according to him that a KEPT man can take advantage of).
So, fast forward to today: Men are becoming more comfortable staying at home and "taking care of the household and kids" and woman are more than happy to "wear the pants". However, if we rewind a little, the bell curves are shifting... Women are rising in business power i.e. more and more woman are running companies and countries, and men are becoming more passive and they are letting go of the "burden" to be the "hunters" or in modern times, the "bread-winners".
@sneakybeesh has a point. Look anywhere in the world now and you will see a rise for women! HURRA!! Us men are fine with it... We are becoming less and less chauvinistic and breaking society's norms in that aspect. So, according to @sneakybeesh we should take advantage of this situation. How? This is my understanding of his theory:
We are a generation of well educated, well groomed and quite frankly, well presentable men. However, we are "no longer that" (i.e. no longer early 20s and cocky) nor are we "there yet" (i.e. at an executive level in our careers). On the other hand, there is a previous generation of women that are highly successful, they are "there" and they are divorced and on the prowl.
ENTER THE COUGAR!
So, bring a group of Generation Limbo men and a group of post baby-boomer and pre-generation X executive Cougars and we have a match made in today's economy.
Now, ENTER THE KEPT MAN.
The concept of a Kept Man has been around for centuries... they are men tagging along a rich and successful woman's trail. Look at Oprah's husband but-not-so-much-a-husband-whatever-his-name-is. He is a pioneer in this field. The difference now? The stigma is all but gone!
We are a generation that is more than happy with MILF's that have children old enough to be either our ages or enough to kick out of the house. Those Executive Cougars are happy with their single lives, yet they are looking for that young and well rounded trophy arm band that they can take to their business functions and not feel like they have to babysit him, yet they can also send him shopping with the dog and he is more than happy to do it!
@sneakybeesh is quite content with being Kept, given the chance. What does he want in return? A pre-nup stating a minimum monthly expense (taking inflation into account of course) and a new car every year. He seems to think this a fair trade for someone of his background and sexual expertise (I cannot give a reference to his bed tidings, but I can let all you Cougars now, he was one of the smartest kids in my graduating year... Me being the other one of course!).
Would you be a Kept man? What would your demands be?
Would you be a Cougar? A Keeper Woman?
Let me know what you think... the KEPT and KEEPING!
C
p.s. None of this was said in any sexist way. This is one of his "aspirations" based on facts and a social trend that seems to be unfolding into our modern society according to his research and reading.
